What a beautiful spot, real tropical islands, yet it is hard to imagine their grim and tragic history as a penal settlement until you walk around the forbidding old prison buildings. The islands are now owned by the French Rocket Establishment as they are under the initial trajectory from the space facility at Kourou on the mainland so you can watch Ariane whizzing by!

L’Isle du Diable, Devil’s Island is where prisoners were held in solitary confinement and is inaccessible due to the strong currents ...... it does look a bit sinister from here!

Claudia and Johane on the sailing yacht Inti are here, we last met them at Jacare and like us they are headed to Trinidad but they are planning to go more slowly probably stopping in Surinam on the way.
