After 6 enjoyable months in the Rio Dulce Guatemala we finally departed at 06:30 this morning complete with Daphne, Claire’s sister, from Cayo Quemado in torrential rain and made our way down river through the towering gorge and over the shallow bar (0.2m under the keel) and out to sea.  As always the wind and sea were on the nose as we made our way north east to the Sapadillo Cays at the bottom of Belize’s barrier reef (the 2nd longest in the world).   Crossing the reef was interesting as I managed to “balls it up” but no no damage was done except to my already frayed nerves!
It is lovely to be back on the clear blue briny after so many months of “sweet water”.
