We left Isla Mujeres yesterday lunchtime promising ourselves to return one day.  We sailed out through the stunningly clear turquoise sea to join the Yucatan current on its journey north and into the Gulfstream.
Last night was frustrating in that our planned passage at right angles to the 3.5knot current was thwarted by a moderate headwind making the joys of tacking angles an even bigger problem.......so we started dear old Perky and roared into the night.
This morning the wind has eased and we have a small current on our tail as we close the NW coast of Cuba.  Tropical storms with wind speeds up to 50 knots are forecast for Friday so we are re thinking our strategy and maybe we might have to consider shelter in the Dry Tortugas islands en route.
