Burned capacitor and collateral damage
Opening up the whole storage space just starboard of the electrical central, deep down you find the forward aircon reversed heating unit. The capacitor of the fan motor had burned as anticipated but the collateral damage was extensive. It must have been a little fire down there. All cables to the processor unit were burned as well as cables to the fan motor. To my dismay the sonar cable to the Raymarine DSM-300 fishfinder was also burned. I talked to a company doing marine electronics and aircon installations in Annapolis but they wanted a considerable amount of money to just have a look and moreover gave me little hope it could be fixed.
I had a discussion with AI and found that broken sonar cables can be spliced preferrably using a dedicated wiring box. Since there were healthy cables on both sides of the burned section it was worth trying to cut the damaged part out and reconnect.
Subsequently I took the whole fan motor assembly out, ordered a new replacement fan motor and a dedicated box for splicing transducer cables.
While waiting for the parts fuel senders for tank 2 and 5 were replaced. The only challenge there was to find right length of the sender unit as well as the right adapter for fixing it to the tank. While replacing the sender unit for tank 5 I found the reason why our anchor wash down didn´t work. The pex piping from the pump in the engine room going to the faucet on front deck was cracked.
