Planning to depart before lunch an agressive thunderrain held us back until the afternoon when we let the lines go for Cepsa fuel station in the port. We needed to top up 2.500ltrs of diesel (1,28Eu/ltr) and not filling in heavy rain.
Once tied alongside ready for fuel, the tank cap broke just "out of the blue". It took me some seconds to realize the severe consequencis of not being able to close the tank cap. You can´t go to sea without having it properly closed,or you will contaminate the diesel tanks with water in heavy seaway. Having a strong 220v Bosch drill onboard we managed to "drill out" old corroded bolt pieces and replace with a new stainless bolt.
Once ready it all worked well and we departed Las Palmas in darkness heading SSW for a week on the Atlantic. It was not only leaving Gran Canaria and Las Palmas, but Europe and Schengen. Subsequently earlier in the day we cleared out of Schengen and got our Zarpe from Customs/Immigration.
Hasta Luego Europe !
