We left the Taormina Bay in the afternoon heading ESE towards Peloponessos and the Bay of Kalamata (350Nm).
That means crossing the Ionian Sea between Italy and Greece requiring a descent weatherwindow for at least 72hrs.
To us it looked good on our commonly used weathersites (Windy,Predictwind and Windfinder) with reasonable consensus between them and allthough the first night at sea was a bit rolly we never had to launch the paravanes.
Seeing Etna and Taormina disappear in the distance was a reminder that our time in Italy was over. We spent six months cruising Italy over Costa Smeralda in Sardinia,The Pontine islands,Bay of Naples,The Amalfi coast,The Aeolian Islands and Sicily. Over all it was more than expected with friendly people, beautiful islands infested with history and culture,as well as crystal clear water and beautiful beaches.
There are allways drawbacks and if anything cruising this area is the insane marinaprices (probably haussed by the megayachtindustry).
Moreover we were cruising mainly during lowseason when there´s still availability in marinas and anchorages, perhaps giving us a more postive view compared to cruising here in July/August.

Before sunset after 55hrs at sea (average speed 7,1kts !) we made landfall in Kalamata Marina.
Dora Mac behaved well and the passage as a whole was a pleasure.
