With the Gulfstreem passin close in the North Atlantic waters off the coast of Carolina are very nutritious. That also goes for the swamps which is the dominating ecosystem on land.
In the swamps you find many species of birds and reptiles. Alligators are common and unfortunately for me, snakes are common as well. Harbourmaster in the marina told us “we say in South Carolina that you are never more than five steps away from a snake”. The most poisonous are the water moccasins, rattle snakes and coral snakes.
Being on the border to “snake phobic” this was no good news for me. Never the less the swamp south of town harboured loads of birds and alligators as well. Fortunately no snakes were seen.
