Two Diesel Ducks
We made landfall in Atlantic Yacht Basin which is a shipyard just south of Norfolk.
Just behind was M/V Schiplet moored, a Diesel Duck 382 , and sister ship to Dora Mac. She’s owned by Sven and Nancy and Sven is originally from Sweden.
We spent a lovely day together comparing boats (we got some good ideas) and in the evening the shipyard had festivities related to the 250year celebration this year celebrating USA as a free nation after the George Washington liberation war. The war was 1776 were the liberation army led by Washington finally beat a superior British army.
Naturally France and Spain took their chance and supported George Washington and 1776 USA was a free nation. It’s amazing that the most powerful nation on planet earth only is 250 years old. In those days the liberation war was in line with progressive forces fighting against the monarchies of Europe and fighting for religious freedom.
On the ICW outside the marina a small British long boat attacked a US flagged frigate and these festivities will be at maximum the 4th of July.
Schiplet, a Diesel Duck 382 is similar to the DD 462 but a bit smaller. She has been spray painted in Atlantic Yacht Basin and currently paravanes are being installed.
Then the horizon will be open for adventures.
