Before heading to sea we needed to replace port side navigation light which had been cracked for some time. Still we managed to depart early morning but since encircling the whole south Caicos bank is around 90Nm we would still have to make landfall in darkness. Our good old Raymarine E-120 MFD have had illumination problems lately with one half of the display being much darker and now while heading into darkness the whole display went dark and dead. It’s probably the illumination tubes braking down and so our Navionics on Mercedes IPad became center of navigation. There’s a E-80 slave screen on the flybridge that can still present radar and fishfinder and we also have Navionics with updated charts on my mobile.

Making landfall in West Caicos means trying to locate moorings in the darkness. You can still anchor on the north part but shallow sandy areas are thin with an immense drop off which is great for diving. the moorings are located close to the drop off making diving easy directly from the boat.

In the search light we finally found a mooring and just before midnight we were safely in bed.

The plan is diving and finding a used Raymarine E-120 MFD on eBay for transport to Providence in Turks&Caicos.
