Overnight to Crooked Island
After two lovely days anchored in solitude in Little Inagua it was time to depart.
We were heading to Acklin Island where there are few protected anchorages , and if no descent protection, further to Crooked Island (140Nm).
It was a great passage although with the odd phenomenon that our speed over ground went from 6,8-7kts down to 5,4kts.
Once at sunrise we found the obvious explanation with a huge sac of garbage entangled into the port side paravane.
We needed to stop in open ocean and retrieve port side paravane (not an easy job in ocean swell) to sort the mess out. Once under way again we were back to normal cruising speed.
All weather apps were predicting the usual southeast trade winds but reality was wind from the south around 16-20kts. To get any reasonable shelter we needed to “eye ball “ our way in through the reef north of Pittstown Harbour north Crooked Island, were we spent the night with rock and roll but at least protected from the winds.
