We needed to go back to Stockholm to attend my oldest son Felix wedding so already upon return to Dora Mac in Kalamata we started to look for a marina to leave Dora Mac.
To find place in any of the few marinas reasonably close to Athens was completely impossible and the only offer we had after a week of searching was on the island of Naxos to a price of 2.200Euros for 2 weeks !
After more onlinesearch and loads of phonecalls we finally found a place on the island of Leros 80Nm due east to a more reasonable price.
It meant we needed to take a ferry back over the Aegean Sea from Leros (which is only 15Nm west of Turkey) to Athens which was a 10hr overnight trip spent in a sleeping cabin.
To us this was a surprise cruising Greece. Marinas are scarse and the few existing ones are often full in high season. The good thing about this is that the "Marina Industry" has not yet captured Greece and many ports are still managed by the commune with very modest prices allthough less service. As mentioned earlier we moored alongside in Naoussa Marina for free-unthinkable in Spain,France or Italy.
