Out to Sea
April 7 we had a 2-3days descent weather window for passage to the eastern part of Turks&Caicos.
After saying good bye to cruising friends and Gavi, the harbourmaster, we headed for the fuel dock where we topped up 2.000ltrs of diesel (1,1Usd/ltr).
Our Zarpe for departure was delivered by responsible armada officer and just after twelve we were under way. Trying to launch the starboard paravane it was jammed in the blocks by the starboard spreader. Going up the mast solved the problem and once coming out in open sea we spent three hours in uncomfortable and disturbed headsets passing Cabo Cabron. Once out in more open waters without to much impact from current, circumstances improved and the 160Nm passage to Turks&Caicos became a comfortable ride. Except for problems with the light to the screen of our old Raymarine E-120 plotter everything was working well on the boat.
Except for two cruise ships passing on our starboard side we saw no traffic.
Day two at sea, just before sunset, we dropped anchor at Sandy Cays, a little uninhabited paradise where we were the only boat. With our Q-flag in starboard spreader we needed to carry on in day light next day to Cockburn Harbour for clearance but for now it was time to rest and enjoy this beautiful solitude.
