When the fresh water pump started running intermittently (seldom) some days ago we thought it was from the domestic piping again. This time though the leak was traced to the Quick hot water tank which has happened several times before (several notes before on the blog).

I thought it was from the o-ring to the hot water element but it showed to be from the tank itself. That means the tank needs to be replaced and as a temporary measure I by passed the hot water tank by connecting the cold water supply to the hot water outlet. By doing this the leak from the hot water tank was temporarily fixed but instead the expansion tank started leaking. By switching the valve to the expansion tank off the system is working until we can rectify the whole problem once in Florida. A new hot water tank has been ordered to Riviera Beach Marina in West Palm Beach.

The whole procedure took me 10hrs and in demanding work circumstances mainly due to heat and bad ventilation.To have the hot water tank out you need to dismount some of the interior in the engine room subsequently creating a mess. After job is finished it takes a couple of hours to restore everything. Half of the work time is probably getting the tank out and to have it back in again.
