We woke up to a heavy squall of thunder, downpour like a skyfall and winds gusting over 40kts.

Starting the engine to be ready in case of anchor failure the squall was over in half an hour. After preparations we departed for the next leg to Highborne Cays in the north part of the Exumas (138Nm).

The Exumas is a mixture of nature reserves, uninhabited small islands, small settlements, private islands and small private marinas. It stretches over a 100Nm and many cruisers spend years cruising only the Exumas. It’s also home to many celebrities who have their luxury accommodations on private islands.

The passage was all you can ask for and Mercedes caught a big Dorado (or MahiMahi if you want) which will be enough for three dinners.

Once in Highborne Cays we anchored in Oyster Cays just south of the private marina. Taking the dinghy to the marina cruisers are allowed to visit the marina and use it’s amenities. We had a drink in the restaurant overlooking the archipelago of Highborne Cays and Dora Mac at anchor. Many cruisers spend years in the Exumas. We only have two days.
