After a week in Beaufort NC we departed for Bock Marine halfway up Adamas Creek for haul out first thing in the morning.

When we let the mooring lines a manatee approached the dock seemingly completely unaware of a boat manouvering some meters away. We have seen one manatee.before while on the ICW through Cape Canaveral. Signs along ICW warning for manatees present in the area are frequent indicating injuries from boat traffic is a problem.

Coming up to Bock Marine we had a strong current in the river going one way but once into the haul out area and the dock the current was setting strong in opposite direction.

Not having any bow thruster this was a challenge and after two attempts we decided to only deliver a stern line. Setting full rudder to port and using the fact that Dora Macs stern goes starboard on reverse we could deliver a stern line and then a bow line pulling the bow in by man power. It worked great and was probably the safest way to land in theses circumstances.

Our neighbours who helped us came for a beer later in the evening.
