We arrived here this morning at 7.30, and Phil drove the boat into the harbour and onto a buoy in only a zephyr of wind. A very good job he did as well!
The previous thirty six hours had been very unpleasant with strong winds, occasionally up to force six, on the nose all the way around Land's End. At one point we went as far west as the Scilly Isles trying to find a way to tack around the bottom corner of the UK. Our sail plan was the main with two reefs and our #3 although we spent a long time trying to work out the best lead for the sail in order to prevent it from flogging too much.
Inevitably, we have produced a 'job list' to do here with the most important being the engine.
After that we have the lazy jacks on the starboard side to replace (worn through chafe), the trimming line for the wind vane steering (parted as it is in a vulnerable position) and find some water and more fresh provisions.
The only problem is that tomorrow is a bank holiday.
What do you do with the drunken sailor?
