Friday 22nd April – Messolonghi (‘Scale & polish’)

We woke early and Richard popped across to the washing machine to get our next load in the queue, only to find there wasn’t one and the machine was empty – so machine on and job done.  What’s more, there was still no queue when he returned to collect our washing and put in our next load J

With the sun out, after the bread man had been, we had breakfast in the cockpit and then I got on with the task of drying the mountain of clean washing.

This afternoon, with the water looking comparatively clear, Richard donned his wetsuit and took to the water to check out the state of Pyxis’ hull and propeller – having run the engine we could feel some vibration on the propeller and knew it needed some tlc.  Once in the water it was apparent there has been quite a lot of growth over the winter which needed to be scraped off before we would be able to go anywhere.  Dave brought out his hookah diving system for Richard to try (like scuba but with a long hose to a compressor instead of a tank) instead of free diving.  It made the job much easier and so Richard spent the rest of the afternoon in the water giving both boats a jolly good ‘scale and polish’.

This evening I have cooked dinner aboard whilst Richard rediscovers the muscles he has forgotten about.
