Saturday 4th August – Tresco, Isles of Scilly

This morning the cloud and drizzle moped overhead and didn’t look like it was going to clear all day – yuk, definitely a duvet day.  However, about 4pm it brightened up and the sun came out; we leapt into the dinghy and across to Bryher on the other side of New Grimsby Sound for a walk around.

As soon as we set foot on Bryher, we loved it.  Small, unspoilt, a few houses, a shop, a hotel on the far side, a camp site and a pub of course – the Fraggle Rock Bar.

The spectacular views over the western side were well worth the short walk it took to reach the top of the island.  A mass of Atlantic rollers and a panorama of very large rocks for them to crash into – it’s easy to see why the yachts stay this side!

Tonight there is a local band playing at the pub called ‘Touching Cloth’ – we expect to be able to hear it clearly from the boat, hope the music is good.

Back on board, it’s curry for dinner (no, not mackerel – that has been turned into pate for lunches – though I feel a recipe book coming on – 101 things to do with mackerel).
