Friday 7th December – Lagos

We were up late this morning having sat in bed listening to the Lagos Marina Navigators Net broadcast on Ch77 at 09.30 on the handheld VHF radio.  This gives an update on local weather, boat issues, events, etc.

I then started on the washing up from last night…

Within 5 minutes there was a loud bang on the hull from Lee, he has the same type of boat as us and is interested in fitting a cockpit enclosure similar to ours and holding tanks – so is keen to have a detailed look.

He brought with him Stephen and Anne from Wandering Dragon as he had first called on them to ask if we were up; the consensus was that we should be, even if we weren’t, so they came round in force to wake us up !  They had also come to announce that they had volunteered us to take over running the Navigators Net as the current folk are flying back to England next week for Christmas.

Whilst we were chatting to arrange a time for Lee to visit tomorrow morning (he could see we were not quite awake), Carola turned up to say that ‘Blue Nose’ were happy for us to borrow their air compressor this morning so that we could fix the jet on our oven (not wanting to risk dinner being so late again J ).

Barbara then came by from one of the other yachts with their contact details so that we can let them know everything is OK with their yacht whilst they are away, and then Jenzt from ‘Blue Nose’ arrived with their enormous air compressor.

What a morning – after all this activity, I finally made some coffee for us but it was too late for breakfast.  I couldn’t finish the washing up as Richard was wanting to get in the galley with the air compressor, to fix the oven. The very good news is that the oven is now fixed – yippee.

That done, we dashed off to collect the hire car, unfortunately leaving Richard’s driving licence on the table – I kept them busy entering the additional drivers, Peter and Stephen, whilst Richard ran back to Pyxis.

This afternoon we finally got the chance for some brunch and then did some cleaning on the boat.

Early evening we went to the hotel and did a bit of internet for e-mail and the weather, and some skyping.  As we were thinking of finishing up for the evening, Carola turned up with the car keys, as they had popped to Portimao this afternoon, and so we stayed for a drink.  When we went to settle up, the barman offered us a complimentary cocktail, and so we stayed a little longer.  Then ‘Blue Nose’ arrived and so our departure was delayed a little longer still.

On her way back to Moonshadow, Carola came to Pyxis so that I could make a take-away Pizza for Peter as they are still rebuilding their galley; we called it ‘Pyxis Hut’.  Just as it finished cooking, Peter arrived, looking for Carola (he knew where she would be) and he was able to help carry his pizza back to Moonshadow.

This evening we have finally managed to rest – albeit aided by a glass of rosado, a DVD and some chocolate fudge.
