Messolonghi (Mesolóngion)

Thursday 17th September – Messolonghi (Mesolóngion) 38:21.637N 21:25.049E
Today we got the strong westerly we wanted – sadly it was at 12.30am and accompanied by heavy rain and a thunderstorm. Having run around and closed all the hatches we went back to sleep.
PATRAIKOS SOUTHEAST 4 LOCALLY 5 TEMPORARILY VARIABLE 5 TO 6. MODERATE LOCALLY POOR. THUNDERSTORM The weathermen were taking no chances with the forecast; we have to say the variable bit was right – we have had wind, rain, heavy cloud, flat calms and bright sunshine. The wind hasn’t been able to decide what to do with itself – it has blown from all directions, sometimes gusting hard, sometimes nothing at all – blowing us onto the pontoon one minute and off the next.
We decided to leave it to it and have stayed in port, reading and catching up with chores. This evening Richard went out for a cycle ride to find Lidl and stock up on a few supplies.
I was able to spend some time in the galley making a nut roast which even Richard liked. We spent the evening eating dinner in the cockpit watching the lightning in the distance, somewhere towards Patras.
