Some worrying reports and flying back to Annapolis

After summer in Sweden and Galicia combined with work in Lofoten/Norway it was time for me to go back to Dora Mac. Mercedes stayed some more weeks in Galicia to celebrate her fathers birthday. We had been getting some worrying reports from Falcon Riley who looked after Dora Mac that there was water filling up in the engine room bilge. Moreover the float switch for the bilge pump didn´t work so he needed to visit the boat frequently to press manual on the 3-way bilge pump switch in the pilothouse to empty the bilge. Wether it was fresh or saltwater was difficult to say but it was dry around the sea chest, propellershaft seal and watermaker seacock which was reassuring.

September 14 I flew from Copenhagen with a 2 hour stop in Keflavik/Iceland (nice to stretch legs) and further to Washington DC. Catching an Uber was a mess since my Uber App forced me to update payment system and constantly suggested ApplePay. Around midnight I was onboard Dora Mac and got a good nights sleep amazed that it was still hot here in Annapolis.

First day onboard I needed to adress the leak to the bilge and found it was a freshwater leak from the non pressurized part of the domestic water system. The piping from port side water tank (which is connected to starboard water tank) was leaking. Switching both tanks off I managed to replace the leaking piping, empty the bilge, and some days later replace both float switches with new style electronic floatswitches (Dora Mac has 2 float switches in the engineroom bilge where the upper one is connected to the horn for high bilge alarm).

As usual it took 4-5 days to have everything clean and up working again to be able to focus on planned repairs and service.
