Etter noen få dager til kai, med bl.a.
besøk av hovedstaden St. John's og taxitur til English Harbour, hvor sjåføren
holdt på å prate hull i hodene våre, var
gjestene klar for nyhe eventyr. Vi hadde 3 dager på
en fin strand før vi seilte til Deep Bay, kun 6 nm, men til en ny verden. Her er
det ikke dønninger og vi ligger for anker, og ikke minst, vi får
svalende og frisk vind.
Bukta er mest kjent for "Andes" som sank her i
1905. Den hadde 1330 tønner med asfalt ombord. Ved åpning av lukene eksplorderte
dekket på grunn bl.a. av dårlig stuing
og båten sank her. Vi ser bare mastetoppen.
En kjempefin plass for snorkling.
Eirin og Iver bader fra båten. Henrik på snart 4 år
fikk på seg vest og tok sats og ville svømme med pappa! Ropte at han måtte
berges!! Han er nå etter få dager blitt flink på stranda. Padler ut på så dypt
vann at han ikke står og så tilbake igjen. Vi regner med at han kanskje lærer å
svømme de neste to ukene. Vi får se.
Skolearbeidet går sin gang med pappa som lærer.
Ikke bare kjekt!!
Vi skal idag seile tilbake til Jolly Harbour for
proviantering og bunkring av vann. I morgen tidlig seiler vi til Barbuda, en
strekning på 35 nm. Det er meningen at vi skal bli noen dager.
Et paradis med en laaaang sandstrand og en nesten
øde øy.
After a few days in the marina, when we also
visited the capital St. Johns and had a taxidrive to English Harbour and Nelson
Dockyard, with a taxidriver who nearly killed us with his chatting, we are now
ready for new adventures. We had 3 days on the lovely Jolly Beach before we
sailed to Deep Bay. Only 6 NM, but a new world. No swell and we are anchoring
and even better, we got a cooling breeze.
This bay is most known for "the Andes", who sank
here in 1905. She had 1330 barrels with pitch, but in bad weather, the cargo
moved and gas came into it. When they opened the hatches, she exploded and
sank.
Now only the top of the mast is visible and it's an
adventure to snorkle there.
Eirin and Iver are good swimmers and are jumping
from the boat. Henrik, nearly 4 years old, is using his life west and thinks he
can swim with the others. We think he migth after another couple of
weeks.
The school work has to be done, but with unwilling
pupils, so that's not the highligth of the day, definitively not
!!!
To day we are sailing back to Jolly Harbour,
suplying food and water, before we on Thursday sail for the exotic island
Barbuda. It's a 35 NM sailing. Hopefully we can stay there for some days,
all dependant on the swell, becauce the island has long, long and white
beaches....
