Crossing Biscay (Day 2)
44:22.4N 04:57.6W Another uneventful day....... Saw lots of dolphins but they
didn’t come to play. Thought we saw a whale, but can’t be
sure. Glassy clam all day – hard to believe it can be so
calm. Even harder to comprehend that the bottom of the sea is 4.5km down!! The calm conditions gave Alan a chance to practice his
traditional navigation techniques and out came the sextant. However he’s
still to work out whether we’re in the northern or southern hemisphere! It
seems like an awful lot more hassle than looking at the chart plotter, but he assures
me it’s all fun! Mary got stuck into her book, The Girl With The Dragon
Tattoo, so was happy. The wind has been variable but has inevitably found its way
to the south and is of course now on the nose! We hope to arrive at Gijon mid morning on Monday. Sunrise in Biscay A strange form of entertainment. Note how glassy
calm the sea is. |
