Title: Bored in Bayona

There has not been a lot to say for the last few days as we’ve been stuck in Bayona waiting for the weather to improve.

On Thursday morning we moved back into the marina as there was more bad weather forecast.  In the afternoon we took the bus into Vigo and wondered around the city, which we decided wasn’t the most exciting city in Spain.

The storm was supposed to arrive on Thursday afternoon and we felt a little cheated when it hadn’t arrived by the time we returned from Vigo at 8pm.  We need not have worried though because a few hours later it started raining and it didn’t stop for the next 24 hours!  We spent the whole of Friday confined below decks.  The wind also increased to 25 – 30kts, with a few gusts just below 40kts, but it wasn’t as bad as the previous storm.

Saturday was spent doing boat jobs and Alan changed the fuel filters on the engine.  A messy but necessary job, followed by a lovely evening on board Gabber, a Dutch boat that we first met in Portosin.

We moved back out into the anchorage on Saturday night as the swell in the marina was terrible.  By now the anchorage was looking full as several other boats had arrived, waiting for better weather and everyone in the marina also moved to anchorage because of the swell.

By Sunday the weather was starting to improve and a few of the other boats moved on.  The boat was tidied ready for Toby’s arrival in the afternoon.

We’ll be very glad to move on from Bayona.  It’s a nice town, but it’s frustrating to be stuck in one place for so long.  If you are reading this with a thought for heading to Bayona, our advice is don’t go to the Marina Puerto Deportivo.  It’s the worst marina we have stayed at – it’s very expensive (€33 for 40ft), the swell is awful, the shoreside facilities barely exist in two portacabins and you can only receive the wifi 100 yards from the office.  The anchorage is much calmer, very scenic, the marina wifi works well, and it’s free!!!!

It’s now early on Monday morning and we’re about to leave for Porto de Leixoes.  Yipeeee!
