Hi Folks

Well it goes from one extreme to another , last night the wind died so it was back to the iron head sail , speed down to 4.5 knots , still cant complain the sun is shinning still and the skies were clear again .
Our trusted Yankee has become a bit tattered after flogging in the light winds last night, the UV strip stitching has decayed a bit and one edge of it has come loose, so it will be out with the sewing machine when we get to Tonga , its done well as it now has 14,000 nm under its belt and is the most used sail apart from the gennicker onboard , since all this down wind stuff the main is virtually unused and sits in its cover quite contented ..
Meanwhile back at the ranch we are all tucked into various books, it seems like James Mitchner is the flavour of the month with Lyn reading Caribbean , Rob on Mexico and myself on one about the Klondike gold rush , very interesting , especially the bits about the pack ice coming down from the mountains in spring under the existing ice covering these massive rivers and exploding through the surface burgs the size of houses, this was all based in the 1890's and just showed how gullible people were to get to the gold fields, it was the equivalent of crossing the pacific to get to these fields from the eastern seaboard of Canada, most of the information was duff and the only people who really new the route was the fur trappers, according to the book the trail was littered with bodies who were ill equipped for such a torturous journey.
It seems that sailing that distance is a much better option than what those poor buggers went through, we use pilots these guys were just doing it on hear say ,the bits they didn't tell them were that it gets down to minus 40 for days on end in the winter and no amount of woolly warmers will keep you alive unless you are under cover !
On the food front Lyn is back at the helm today , Rob made an exceptional Lamb chop with mashed spuds , and no sign of the cook books coming out , hay we must all be getting the hang of it at last ! , we have received a good lamb recipe from Lexa we were all slavering at the thought of it yesterday but lacked any decent lamb, Lemons and a few other bits so that one on our menu list when we get to NZ.
Me well my side bruises have come through a week after the " lets go fly a mountain incident and I look like a relief map of New York City , pain some what less today , but I'm still on the pills ..
