Hi Folks,
A funny thing happened on the way to the car park,
Cpt Fluffy has been nearly guillotined in a lift, we were on our way up to the
2nd floor of the multi storey car park when the lift doors closed and didn't
stop they bounced the Cpt from one door to the other and she has had flash backs
of the bay of Biscay minus the sick bag, it funny thing but Ruth had seen a baby
crushed in that lift only half an our before , including the pram , a letter is
on its way to Mr Otis ASAP .. Cpt survived because the people in the lift pulled
Lyn into the lift and she has survived to fight another day ! .. Message to
Phil don't worry she's still alive ! and the baby too it was only the pram that
got mashed !
After this episode we decided to get out of
town sharpish and headed for the mountains, spectacular , spectacular is all I
can say, as we had a four wheel drive we were able to penetrate the
hinterland wonderful waterfalls cascading down a thousand feet against
the backdrop of sheer volcanic upsurges of rock , its very David
Atainborough ... the roads we were using have been partially constructed by
the power company to gain access to the hydro power plants in the mountains , we
managed to drive right in to the centre of the island , pics to follow in the
next few days will show it all , driving across mountain rivers etc, we had
hoped to get all the way over to the other side but due to storm damage the
track was under repair so we had to retrace our steps back down whence we came
.
Once we had returned to the main road we
continued around the island, visited another waterfall but this had nothing on
the ones we had seen previously.
After completing the circumnavigation of the
island by road some 125 km we attacked the supermarket for the last of the
stores required to last us some three months till we get to NZ ... anybody
coming to Tonga please bring two bottles of Gordons Gin , the price here for a
bottle is £37 ...... that's French Polynesia for you ! ! !
A crew safely returned
