Hi Folks,
Well another day in the Grande bleu , snorkelling
off of the outer reef of Cooks bay , clear blue but not a lot of life as we have
seen in other places, the reef had a number of "Crown of thorns" star fish,
looks like a starfish about 400m across and when pulled off of the coral roll up
into a football size ball, I am told basically it eats the coral by
covering the polyps and dissolving them in an acid secretion which it then
digests it has decimated the reef, they have had a lot of problems on
the barrier reef in Australia and have been on a massive cull to try and reduce
the population, its a shame as there is no pollution here save our heads which
flushes out of the bay through the main channel only to have one of mother
natures nasty pitch up and ruin what was once a
beautiful reef.
Whilst we were on the reef edge the wind got
up to 30 knts and things got a little choppy on the way back as we were some 5
km from where we are anchored .
A few more boats have pitched up, mostly from
the outer reef anchorage as a few of them have been dragging there anchors, not
the place to do that as the other side is only 200m away , glad I'm in 20m and
have enough swing room to turn a battle ship ...
Then it was a quick lunch and off to the
village for a walk and second look around, back to the boat were bangers
and mash were the order of the day, yum yum , paradise, views , blue water and
bangers ...
A stuffed crew ...
PS peaches and cream to follow
