Hi Campers,
The start of the day was wet wet wet .. we poked
our heads out and went back to bed as the rain kept coming down , only Ruth went
up top and gathered about 50 litre of water which was nice of her, I think
she thought that Rob and myself were going to wimp out of the trip as we were
snuggled up in our respective corners not looking to keen on going out and
getting wet ! as it turned out we were dressed and ready to go at the appointed
hr much to her suprise .
The rain finally stopped and we put all the
gear in the Z boat and set off for Swallow caves, it is about 1.5 nm from our
anchorage, well worth the wait though it was so calm we managed to get the boat
through the entrance and tied up to a stalacmight of lime stone inside the cave,
for those who have already been to the cave, i.e. all the guys from NZ on our
whale watching expo this was truly spectacular as it was dead calm , we then
jumped in and explored the cave walls, the view from the back of the cave is
quite wonderful , if you dive down and look out the cobalt azure colour of light
filters into the cave, and is truly a wonder of nature, eyesight essential for
this one and defiantly one of the sights of this island group not to be
missed.
After such a great vista we left the cave and
proceeded further along the lime stone cliffs and into another cave which was
much shallower and not as good a view as Swallow cave itself , these cliffs have
been eroded over the centuries and great caverns have been carved out by the
swell actions.
After all this excitement we returned to the Zeph
had a hot shower, sat in the cockpit as the sun set with our new LED
cheepo Chinese light and pondered tomorrows adventure of the Mariners cave
complex ..
