Hi Folks,
Hope you liked our second attempt at sending some
photos , these are current views and island shots taken the other day
.
I am currently recovering from a night on the
vino colapso , we were invited by the Austrian couple who were damaged by
large log some 1500 nms from the Marquises and have mentioned in previous logs
before, we assisted them with repair information and drew up a damage report for
there insurers, anyway they certainly repaid us in wine, it finished at one
in the morning !
French Polynesia is very expensive, even for
the idle rich, the hotel we are parked next to is 900 $ us a night ! a bit much
I think for a sandy beech and a few palm trees , a bottle of good old French
plonk just a mear 18 Euro ! shock horror I hear you cry , and rightly so , we
are weeping in our bilge's that we didn't buy more in Panama , we are now
wineless and have gone back to our rum supplies laced with fruit juice , at
least it keeps the spirits up .
We have found though a nice little restaurant which is "London price" so
that to us seems acceptable two beers a burger and fries French styley only come
to 11 Euro each but a view worth much more, the restaurant is perched over
the dock and has crystal clear water with all sorts of exotic coloured fish you
don't get that at Mc Burgers, plus they used real potatoes and steak not the
regrinds of innards and reconstituted corn to produce the end result .
In the afternoon we cleaned the hull, and did a few more maintenance bits ,
changed the LED lights , wonderful things when there working but didn't last the
50,000 hrs predicted ! just one thousand hrs to be exact , the wonders of modern
tech .. we have reverted to the good old fashioned lamp !
A quite evening in at last, we called Rhythm who is 160 nm to the east of
us and heard of the horror stories of shallow water, large coral heads, burnt out
anchor windlasses, anchors and chain wrapped around, everything and vicious
tide races at the entrances to some of the atolls, much nicer here me think
!
A happy crew ..
