Hi Folks,
Well the mayhem has continued with our grand tour
of the island commencing with the national museum of Polynesia which was most
interesting, lots of bits about the pre French days, the arrival of those
explorers, then the missionaries and guess what after we had beat the religion
into them we just happen to think they couldn't govern themselves so
we took over there country, and the real laugh is that now the French would
like them to become independent but they don't want too so the wheel has turn
full circle, well I may be a bit cynical but that's the jist of French Polynesia
, they even want the Euro to, what sensible fellows.
We then left the museum and went off in
search of grottoes, found them and passed by rather quickly as the mossis
where getting a good feed out of us, onto some waterfalls equally unimpressive
and more munching mossis, then onto the Paul Gauguin museum, again very
interesting with a lot of genuine letters and sketches of his works and
travels, he died in Nuku Hiva at the age of fifty five, officially he left
five kids in France but a lot more in Polynesia if his last sketches were
anything to go by he must have had a very large smile on his face
!
We then toured further down the island until
we reached the end of the road , some 78 km from the marina then it was about
turn and back to the supermarket for a two trolley fill up , storing ship for
the next three months as all food stocks are low, even the tin stocks are
depleted, we bought small stuff in the outer islands but this is the last place
we will probably be able to stock up before NZ, Tonga is an unknown quantity and
as we have learnt on our travels by bitter experience sometimes don't listen to
the rumours expect nothing and you wont be disappointed !
Back to the boat with all the stores and
transferred them across our gang plank, that was fun whilst balancing on a two
metre plank six inches wide hanging onto the support wire and trying to hang on
to the shopping as you swung it from shore to boat, didn't loose a thing except
for a sense of balance !
This was all followed by a few drinks and a late
tea eight thirty, we were all pretty knacked as we had been on the go since 7
o/c am , you see its not all sun coral and coconuts out here ..
The well stored crew !
