Colonic Paperwork
Friday 14th March 2008
Hi Folks,
First full day in the area of Colon was a bit full
on , it started with a meeting with Mr Fixit , a bit like Jim but without the
medallion , after we had photocopied another rain forest we set off through the
streets of Colon for the Panama Canal Authority buildings , the guy had
obviously got the wheels well greased as we wafted through security and went
straight to the main offices, there we booked out Admesure appointment , it
is to be Monday as they don't work weekends !
We then proceeded to the Canal Authority Port
Captains office , this was in an old colonial style building which like most of
the buildings in Colon had seen better days , it turns out that we have to
do all the immigration things again , so we handed over a bunch of photo stats
filed in more forms , Ike was a great help as his fluent Spanish guided
methrough the tricky bits .
Moving on to the next building through
what seems a maze of streets we then presented ourselves to the immigration dept
, another handful of photo stats followed by another immigration fee four three
page fullscape forms to fill in for each crew member a photograph and a thumb
print and we were away with a coutious "adios amigos" then weaved way back to
Colon yacht club , whilst passing the waterfront the James Bond movie set was in
full swing boat chases were in play and the locals were very excited about the
whole thing .
Passing the bus station was a great
experience, buses very colourfully decorated , even the front windows quite how
the driver sees out I don't know ... but that will be another experience to
taste at a later date , as the pilot book says , not a place to wander around
alone in although the main streets looked ok the back streets we drove
round didn't .
Arrived back at the yacht club , paid the man
and organised the gas bottle filling , the immortal words of " Yes no problem
tomorrow " were uttered by Tito our fix it man , we will see !!!!
The girls and Rob went to the supermarket in the late afternoon this was
the one highlight of the day , American style , porridge oats , peanut butter
and mamas apple pie whoopee ...
To round off a perfect Panamanian day last night the wind died and the
whole anchorage was filled with an acrid smoke you couldn't see the boat next to
you at one stage so we battened down the hatches and stifled till the morning ,
wind changed and we could breath again !1
A Gasmasked Noah !
Veg man
Sharon , on the Daniel Craig visiting
front, He rang and said he couldn't make it last night , something about a long
legged senioreeta and a Tiquila punch !! Lyn had cooked a great Mexican dish too
so we ate Daniel's share it was great
!!
