Progress in the Lazaret
26th April 2008
Dear All,
We have completed the installation of the new auto
pilot and will be testing and sea trial this Sunday , the initial test has been
all ok , it took myself and Rob most of Thursday to install the unit ,
Photos to be included soon ..
The refurbished alternator has been tested
every morning and is holding up well , I adventualy found a supplier for the
replacement ... Two months from the USA .. the alternatives wont be in stock
until at least mid May so it looks like the old one is going to have to do
...
Yesterday I went on a spares run around Panama
city , Perkins filters , spare fuses , pick up the modified haws pipe which on
release of the anchor chain under free flow shakes itself of the mounts due to
the length of the pipe , we have shortened
it so as to avoid further damage .
We visited the Smithsonian Institute in the
afternoon , its a small ismuth near our anchorage , the research station is in
one of the old American forts that protected the entrance to the canal between
the 1st and 2nd world wars , after Pearl harbour it was de-commissioned as
events in modern warfare had made them obsolete , large iguanas , two toed
sloth's , birds and turtles were the highlight of the day , we completed the day
by having a well deserved slap up meal .
Today we collect our charged Scuba bottles ,
get the cooking gas bottles filled , and visit Panama city for a last minuet
shop as we plan to clear out on Monday for the Galapagos islands , catching the
tide " yes we are back in a tidal zone , 4.5m just like the Solent " for the Lss
Perlas Islands to scrub the boats bum prior to leaving for the Galapagos
.
The crew in Panama ..
Dave and Alison Hale , been sending em are you all
ok !
Rob and Sharon Horsey , ditto to the above
.
