The Incident in the Night
Tuesday 21st May
We continue to bowl along mostly sailing but currently motoring slowly in a very rolly sea waiting for the wind to catch up with us. Yesterday lunchtime the sea state was quite difficult and there was a lot of swearing from the galley as Penny was trying to make lunch. The sea state had improved by dinner time so we had cottage pie, and didn’t have to resort to opening tins.
At 04.00 the VHF radio crackled into life as a cargo ship that was passing gave us a call. As we are at the back of the fleet and he was travelling East to West – he is heading for Charleston – he had passed all the other yachts. The watch officer was keen to know what all these sailing boats we’re doing. So we had a nice chat about the rally and about our boat before going our separate ways.....
