Monday 19th September

Woke up to a gray overcast morning threatening rain, so decided to head for a marina. We consulted “Active Captain” which is a website that anyone can join and add comments about places to stop, anchorages, marinas, conditions in the ICW, etc.  We’ve found it invaluable.  Looked at a couple of marinas within 1-2 hours of Bulls Creek.  Bucksport Marina came out well so we headed for that. It’s only about 5 miles away.

We arrived here at about 10.30.  The owner, Jeff, helped us tie up and made us welcome.  One other transient boat in. The skipper came and had a chat.  He and his crew are heading towards New York.  We seem to be the only sailing boats heading northwards.

Checked in, and Jeff gave us all the information on the marina. It is also a RV camp site so there are a few very large RVs here.  There is the Captain Seaweeds Bar and Grill (shut Mondays) so we will have to stay here 2 nights to sample there fayre.

We have been in contact with another OCC couple, Don and D, who put a photo on the OCC Facebook page taken at a restaurant at a marina further north on the ICW, at Barefoot Landing.  They are now in Oriental in North Carolina, and we hope to meet up with them there.

Heavy rain overnight last night, started at 5 p.m. and went on until about 11 p.m. Gray and overcast this morning.  Looks like this is the forecast for the next couple of days.  We’ll head off tomorrow (Wednesday) to Barefoot Landing and spend a day or 2 there.
