Tuesday 26th April – Friday 29th April

Ian and Barry left early Tuesday morning to go to Havana - Barry to get his flight home, and so Ian could wait for Gerry to arrive on Thursday.  Penny was covered in bites, and the “no-see” bugs were driving us crazy so we decided to stay in an air-conditioned hotel for a few days.  Also the marina is not near any towns etc. although it has a bar/restaurant, but that closes at 5pm each day.  Janni booked us into a local all-inclusive resort further along the coast at Guardalavaca. We are staying in the Brisas resort.

Victor duly drove us there. We have a room with a balcony over looking the swimming pool, stage for the nightly shows and day time fun and games, and the beach and the sea.  This part of Cuba has some lovely beaches, and this is certainly one of them.  Being all-inclusive everything is free – all food and drinks. So you can eat as much as you like all day long and drink oneself stupid!  We have spent quite a lot of our time here in our air conditioned room, cooling down Penny’s bites.  Although we now think she may have had an allergic reaction to something.

We’ve quite enjoyed being here.  Good place for people watching!  We’ve seen 3 weddings on the beach, watched people making fools of themselves in the afternoon fun and games, and last night a spectacular water ballet show.

We are returning to the boat this afternoon, and Gerry and Ian will return tomorrow, Saturday.  Then it’s a 300 mile westward trip along the north coast of Cuba to Varadero.  We will leave the boat in the marina there and go to Havana, about 70 miles away, for a few days, and then probably do some trips to some of the other large towns in that part of Cuba.....
