Thursday 16th May

We left Bermuda yesterday at 11.00 am local time – an armada of sailing boats motor sailing through the fairly narrow town cut out into the Atlantic.  Unfortunately the motor sailing didn’t stop once we were out in the open sea – no wind, about 4foot swell and sunshine.

In the last 24 hours we have covered about 150 miles of which we have managed to sail for about 4!  Today we put extra fuel in the tank from the cans we carry, and are hoping there may be a bit more wind tomorrow.  Certainly there will be some on Saturday.

The forecast for next week is looking a little alarming as there are gales force winds coming down from the north west.  We hope that they will stay north of us, but we may have to motor south to avoid them.  Typical sailing - either not enough wind, or too much or enough but in the wrong direction....
