April
We spent the rest of the week in Jolly Harbour
cleaning and polishing, getting laundry done, and socialising with other Ocean
Cruising Club (OCC) members who were there. We joined the OCC last year –
to join you have to have sailed an ocean passage of at least 1000 nm, which we
did when we crossed the Atlantic. The OCC also runs a morning net on the
SSB which we join in with, so it was nice to meet people we had only heard on
the radio.
We had arranged to meet Gerry and Ian on “Spray”
in Antigua, but had a change of plan and decided to meet in Nevis, which is to
the west of Antigua. We had a pretty horrible sail across to Nevis with
fluctuating winds and a rolly sea. We were pleased to get to the anchorage
at Charlestown. Nevis has lots of mooring buoys which have long tales
which are easy to pick up, so Chris didn’t have to do his usual trick of jumping
in the water.
Spray arrived the next day, with their friend
Barry on board, so we spent a couple of days in the anchorage; we did a taxi
tour of the island with John, and had a good lunch at the Golden Rock which is
an old plantation. The following day we visited the botanical gardens and
then left for the short trip across to St
Kitts. |
