I didn’t wake up until nearly 9am when the feint noises of Simon
rummaging for some breakfast brought me round from a very deep and
cosy sleep. That has to be the latest I’ve slept in a year. Good news
– we weren’t on the rocks, bad news- the weather was foul again. First
of today’s tins was opened – apricots which I heated and poured over
Si’s weekend pancakes. He then checked the GRIB files and for our
(roughly 24hour) next leg we could choose between better winds and
rain today or lighter winds and sunshine tomorrow. Si chose the latter
and I only hope there is enough wind to fill our sails and make it a
stress free trip.
Our new spot in the anchorage is now too far away from the town for
me to pick up wifi without an antenna. My laptop now crashes
frequently using picture cards, cameras and antennas as a cause, so I
wasn’t prepared to take the risk of using an antenna. I watched the
time and my chance to Skype slip by knowing mum would be at Julie’s
this morning and Ami would now be up after no doubt a late night last
night; I’ve already caught the boys since our arrival. There was a
glimmer of hope when the boat in front of us left and we re-anchored
nearer to the town but no, the longest I kept a connection was three
seconds.
The day slowly brightened while we had a lazy day on board. Looking
up at the hilltops I yearned for a hike in the absence of water above
freezing to swim in. The most exercise we had however was lifting a
coffee cup while watching ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’. Great
excitement came later in the afternoon when the weekly car ferry
arrived and there was a brief hive of activity on the harbour wall
before things returned to a plod. We followed suit and had an early
night with a big sail ahead of us tomorrow.
