Brindabella's Web Diary

Luckily the day was brighter for our exploring. After dumping the
garbage at Bitter End Yacht Club we rounded Saba Rock and dropped
Shovell’s little anchor beside the reef off Eustatia Island. We
noticed how bright the coral was with large deep purple fans and the
brightest of red tubes harbouring little fishes. I usually have a spot
of bother trying to get back into the dinghy, but today adrenaline
helped me out: A large barracuda followed us back to the dinghy and I
did not want to be in the water with it. From the dinghy we watched it
circling around and sitting underneath. I asked Si to take a photo
thinking he would just duck his head over the side. No! He jumped in
but fortunately the barracuda seemed to be camera shy and disappeared
swiftly as soon as Si held the camera up.
We motored across to Prickly Pear Island and after a fab swim on an
idyllic beach and a rather disappointing snorkel we motored all the
way round the island and back to Brindabella. We were soon on our way
again and had a great sail back round the west coast of Virgin Gorda
where we checked out The Baths. We had passed this wonderful
collection of rocks when we arrived in the BVIs but the guide book
said visiting was a must. It was now later in the afternoon and with
lots to see I didn’t want to rush. The information about mooring buoys
is also very ambiguous and with rolly seas we decided to anchor back
off Spanish Town and come back early tomorrow.
For emergency stores I’d bought several packs of veggie soya
protein mixes which had reached the ‘use it or chuck it’ date. Tonight
I produced a culinary delight of pretend burgers! I added a few things
to zap them up a bit and they weren’t actually half as bad as I
thought they’d be. Simon was still talking to me anyway! One pack down
three to go! I wonder if he’ll still be talking to me by then!!!!
