Saturday 30th January (Lini's Journal)
Flashers and Flashes.
The anchorage had become rather rolly in the swell and several boats had upped anchor and left quite early. I didn’t feel quite up to snorkelling on the reef just yet so we decided to have another day in Saline Bay for me to recover. While we ate breakfast the wind assisted, small cruise liner ‘Wind Surf’ came into anchor and while having a lazy morning we watched them busily ferrying some of their passengers to the beach. I packed a fat free picnic and escorting my huge, solid belly we went ashore for a trial swim with my new, even larger figure.
It wasn’t until we were nearing the shore we noticed that there was a huge absence of clothing on the beach. The whole beach was totally naked!!!!! We pulled the dinghy onto the sand away from the crowds and feeling very over dressed went for a dip. Good news- I could still float with my enormous belly, bad news- it was a tad painful, but not enough I thought to discourage snorkelling on the rocks later when lunch had settled. We sprawled on our blanket and tucked into our picnic slowly taking in the goings on around us. It appeared that these were no ordinary naturists and we had chosen the end of the beach favoured by couples wanting to take rather intimate photographs of the ladies. Some joined up with other couples and for a different sort of ‘This is the misses and her mates on the beach’ type photo and there was even a professional photographer for those wanting something for the bedroom wall. Acres of saggy flesh and wobbly bits obscured our view of the bay. Our bananas remained uneaten in the bag! Things then became worse as more lobster red bodies arrived for photos on the rocks, some of the ladies now sporting glittery body painting on their shoulders and breasts. We abandoned all plans to snorkel round the rocks! Stopping to chat to our neighbours from the anchorage while packing up I frequently sniggered at the sights passing us – what was that pink frilly thing that guy was wearing around his waist?!? We couldn’t wait to get internet access and check out the cruise itinerary for ‘Wind Surf’! I like to think I’m generally opened minded but back on Brindabella when we’d finally stopped sniggering it took us some time to stop the “Can you believe they did that in public?” type comments. As we watched ‘the swinger’s ship’ weigh her anchor we wondered what tonight’s entertainment would be on board and if perhaps Cyril was selling naughty photos of Maude on ‘F’ deck!
Back to normality, we were delighted to see Ali and Ray on Silver Bear come into the anchorage and called across to see how they were. We had good intentions of inviting them for sundowners but I wasn’t feeling too good and Si was racing through the last few pages of his book. Hopefully we’ll catch up with them again soon. How lucky that Si raised his glance for the remains of the sun, as this evening, for the first time ever, I saw the green flash. Yeehah! We went wild and watched a film after tea!!
