Despite the fog horn we slept quite well. I leapt out of bed and as promised shot into town to buy Si a pastry for his breakfast. The morning was yes, foggy and today drizzly as well. The only souls around were setting up tables and chairs outside the cafes no doubt praying for fine weather. I wondered how the umpteen people peering into display cabinets in the bakery had got there as back outside the streets were empty again. Sleepy eyed Si emerged from the cabin and came round with green tea and his goody box. My plans to be back in town ready for the tourist centre to open at 10am faded away as we read pilot books, looked at maps and downloaded much needed virus protection updates. It was getting on a bit when I returned with more maps and guide books. Today we planned a bike ride round the coastal cycle route to Guincho but by the time Si had done the passage planning to Madeira, we’d had some lunch and played on the laptops it was now raining. The weather charts show tropical storm Grace to the west heading swiftly towards England and the possibility of another brewing further south. The weather became progressively worse through the day so we abandoned all plans to go out, battened down the hatches and caught up with jobs.
