Simon wasnt feeling very good this morning! He managed breakfast but once on our way he took on that grey, clammy look: I suggested he have a nap. Unfortunately I had to wake him to ask if hed checked the Navtex of activity today in the firing range we were about to enter, but he soon snuggled back down and slept for most of the day.

Today we sailed closer to the shore and what a sight it was. It changed little all day, what looked like a golden sandy beach going on for miles and miles and miles and miles. At least we were able to sail today albeit slowly with a minimal F2 on the beam. Needless to say it didnt last all day. It was cold today as well, both of us resorting to grown up trousers. We watched pairs of gannets swooping gently down to the water and the terns diving vertically from great height for their dinner. The chart plotter had now taking on a very strange look as just offshore there is a huge underwater canyon dropping over 1000 metres. The contour lines were so close together the chart was a mass of swirly black lines: Very interesting.

We decided not to sail onto the anchorage a little further along the coast and duck into Nazare, a small marina in a busy little fishing port. It was well protected but appeared full as we approached. There was no answer to our calls. There then appeared Captain Mike the English marina owner who waved us to raft off a large yacht on the end of one of three small pontoons. He and Pierre the Norwegian boat owner took our lines and shortly after the police arrived to check our papers. Si then took the same information to the marina office. What a palaver this is.

The fishing boats were arriving home where apron clad wives in scarves waited to help unload their catch. The air was full of that salty, fresh fish smell and gulls circled ready to catch off cuts. Si was now feeling back to normal and having a break from the gammon I made vegetable curry for dinner having a toe bitten by a mozi as I did so. It was SO itchy I could have cut it off and what with an arm still very uncomfortable with quite a collection I popped a Piriton. I wrote half a sentence of journal in bed followed by pages of CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCs as the Piriton knocked me out. I had the first whole nights sleep for ages with no itching.
