Si removed the windscoop during the night as it was surprisingly gusty and intermittently like a wind tunnel in bed. This morning was much cooler with the early sunshine giving way to overcast skies. We wondered if this was a normal Caribbean winter or just an ‘off’ few days.

I had just packed my laptop in a drypack for our planned trip ashore to find an internet café, but with the help of family online Si was able to confirm our flights, register passports for immigration in Miami and get an update on the weather where snow was apparently very deep in London. I was now able to confirm travel details with my family who’d had no idea when I would get back. A frantic juggling of arrangements then commenced to condense a five day visit into two.

My first meal challenge of the day was turning dry focaccia, a can of pimentos, ham, cheese and basil into Bruschetta type doodahs for lunch. We then spent the afternoon fishing and snorkelling in very disappointing conditions after the Soufriere aquarium. We could barely see the sand and weed bed through murky water churned by the swell. And so to challenge number two with no fresh food for dinner. Result - another not very healthy choice of pie made with a tin of M&S chicken in white sauce, sweetcorn and potato wedges with blackcurrant jelly for dessert. CJ then beat Simon at backgammon before bed. Wasn’t it supposed to be fish that was good for the brain?!
