Guess who turned up first thing today saying he got stuck into the
beers last night? I don’t suppose it would have taken too long to walk
fifty metres from the bar to let us know! Ouch! Put your claws away
Lini! Any other day it wouldn’t have mattered so much but he knew Si
was flying home today and an hour or so SSB tuition was a sizable
addition to Si’s huge list of things to do. Forgive and forget Lini.
Apart from ironing long forgotten towny clothes, there was nothing Si
would let me do off his list, so I tried to stay out of the way while
he ran around like a headless chicken. Late morning we decided to go
out for coffee which was a welcome break. Picking up a newspaper the
front page headlines featured yesterday’s misty start; obviously a
rare occurrence.
I’d planned to buy bread and fruit last Saturday so the fridge was
very bare by now. Si returned to his chores onboard and I found a
supermarket. While there I bought a few non-perishables for the next
leg which I juggled all the way back in those ridiculously impractical
American paper sacks with no handles. I‘ll have no trouble
provisioning Brindabella for three weeks there, they stocked
everything; I’ll just need a mortgage! Oh, and shopping bags! Back at
the boat Si had bad news: ‘Festina Lente’ had steering troubles and
had to turn back.
Mid afternoon we walked up to the bus station and I kissed Si
goodbye for nine whole days. He took a part of me away; I’m incomplete
without him. I waited on the corner to wave him off then wandered back
past City Hall and the Arts Centre then strolled briefly round the
sculptures in Par-La-Ville Park just round from the marina. There is a
cultural festival on in Hamilton this week with art, music, dance and
street entertainers and on Saturday in the middle of a full program
there will be traditional Gombey dancers which I’ve been hoping to
see.
Back on Brindabella there was a little problem for little legs! It
was now low tide and mid flight I hoped my knees wouldn’t let me down
on landing. I went through my list of things to do then opened a
backlog of emails before some late night cleaning.
