While doing some early morning reading on deck Si was joined by a
large pelican that was resting on the pushpit after consuming a ton of
fish. He took a couple of photos but fearing some major boat scrubbing
would be necessary very soon, thought it best to shoo it away. I was
woken by loud shouts of, ”Oi, ****** off my boat”. Hoping it wasn’t me
Si was referring to I dragged myself from my dreams and swiftly made
breakfast. It was a hot, airless day and to dinghy ashore with a bit
of apparent wind on our faces was a refreshing treat. Of course this
was short lived as we were then surrounded by heat absorbing buildings
and paths as we wandered round the pretty Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour.
Customs was a short walk to the other end of the complex and we were
glad of the air conditioning while Si filled in the usual stack of
forms at the various departments. We couldn’t wait to cool off with a
dip when we got back. My eyes were whizzing round the whole time
looking out for big fishes with big teeth after the shadows we saw
last night.
We had an early lunch with intentions of heading off early
afternoon to North Sound. Simon found wifi however so we decided to
stay put for today and spent all afternoon on the internet. I firstly
caught up with a zillion emails, at last hearing news from Bob and Roz
who had finally got out to Japan a week late. Their initial flight was
scheduled an hour after they stopped all flights: What awful luck, but
they sounded bright and had used their week enjoyably. My heart sunk
when I realised I was a week behind with my blog and also had weeks
written that I hadn’t had a chance to upload. It was sundown before we
noticed and not a good time to Skype Dan. I dragged him from his bed
to wish them a happy holiday in Budapest for their second wedding
anniversary.
Despite some rain this afternoon, the evening was still unbearably
hot as we ate supper then tried to sleep: Little air was funnelled
through from the windscoop and it was an uncomfortable night.
