There was no hurry to leave this morning as our planned journey was
only three hours or so. Around nine we hoisted the mainsail and said
goodbye to Rodney Bay, home for so long after the ARC. I felt excited
today heading off north for new islands. It was another cracking sail
with a force four on the beam and seas considerably calmer than the
last day of our transatlantic crossing. I remembered that last gybe
and getting the pole down in huge seas in preparation for the beat to
the finish and looked back at the rocks I was so worried we’d end up
on as the boat rounded up in the gusts. Today’s sail was perfect
however and Martinique grew rapidly before us. Our first stop was the
huge harbour of Marin on the south coast where Simon couldn’t wait to
hit the well stocked chandleries and sample the foody delights of this
French island. I foresee torture as he tucks into croissants, soft
cheeses and wonderful sauces. At least I can eat crusty baguettes and
drink yummy French wines though. We dropped our anchor among a sea of
masts and had a lazy afternoon. As book three in his series opened I
expect no sense from Simon for a day or so!
