Day 9

Jumbo waves built and broke around me and the winds stayed brisk all day. Every time they contemplated poling out my headsail I would have troubles holding my course and they decided the flogging sail would drive them crazy. It was too blowy for Porsche. And so I plodded on with just a reefed mainsail at minimal speed through the day and night: It was a frustrating day. The only excitement for me was being within sight of ‘Duffen’ from Norway; we hadn’t seen a soul for days.

It was typical that there wasn’t a man around when a strange tapping noise suddenly came from my cockpit in the night. With torch in hand Lini inspected ropes and blokes and nearly jumped out of her skin when by her hand flapped a bright blue visitor. I had to chuckle watching her in rubber gloves trying to catch the slippery little fellow and return it to the sea. I don’t particularly like these ‘flying fish’ as they call them visiting me as they leave masses of slimy scales on my decks. Several more paid us a visit.

Breakfast – Melon, grapes+ yoghurt.

Lunch – Cheese salad seed rolls.

Dinner – Vegetable stir fry and noodle with hoi sin sauce.
