We beat the alarm at 0500 and left Marblehead at 0530 in glorious but windless conditions. We motored North leaving Gloucester ( “The Perfect Storm” port ) to port and sighting a couple of large whales to starboard.

The forecast was for south west winds but there was nothing until midday when a fresh southerly breeze arrived and we “goose winged” north at  a steady 6 knots plus. We had planned to stop at Cape Elizabeth but the sail was so glorious that we carried on and threading our way through the lobster pot maze we anchored in Jewell Island creek at 18.30 with 78 miles logged.

A beautiful anchorage with 5 other yachts but the hot day led to a thunder and lightning storm before it got dark!

We have now logged over 9000 miles since leaving home but we are only 2500 miles away!
