Blue Hill Harbour

44.24.409N 068.34.665W 11.5 Miles logged Sunday morning was equally beautiful and we left late morning to catch the last of the flood tide through Bartlett Narrows and west for Blue Hill.
At last we discovered an area that was not completely full of lobster floats and again very few yachts. Moorings are available from the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club but we did not fancy calling on the VHF so we threaded our way to the inner harbour where we anchored next to the beautiful 74ft ketch “Dragonera”. (We later heard yachts calling ‘KYC’ – why did we not think of that?!)
“Dragonera” – built Brooklin Boatyard 1994 In this quiet spot seals were again busy feeding and an osprey was fishing hard sometimes diving about 20 metres from ‘Moonbeam’. The way into the anchorage is tricky and we watched a 40ft yacht go aground, back off and leave! A walk to the small town Monday morning before heading south to Eggemoggin Reach!
I am reminded of my Lacrosse playing days!
Houses at the entrance to Blue Hill Harbor At last a great sail tacking down Blue Hill Bay in the sunshine but we motored through Pond Island Sound as the fog rolled in yet again. A while later we picked up a CCA guest mooring just off the Wooden Boat School. |
