Pigeon Island
14.05.421N 060.57.775W Monday morning, a quick run ashore then anchor up and headed south under genoa and mizzen on a fast reach in 25 knots of wind and seas that were occasionally interesting! Departing Martinique arriving Pigeon Island Just 3 hours later we anchored in 18ft of crystal clear water in the lee of Pigeon Island as it is joined to St. Lucia by a spit of land with an enormous Sandals resort! Gregory delivering our fresh fruit Caption competition Here unlike Le Marin we could swim and an ‘Angelfish’ took up residence under the hull. He ( or she ) definitely had character and watched intently and was quite happy to be fed bread while I snorkelled ! A good walk in the “park” and the view from the old fort is well worth it. Looking towards the Pitons St.Lucia The rather laid back restaurant served a very pleasant and reasonable dinner. Some of the yachts appear to spend a large part of the summer anchored here and with Rodney Bay Marina just a mile away there is plenty of social activities. We met up again with a New Zealand couple we had met in Dominica- they bought their boat in Turkey and are heading home via the Panama Canal and the Pacific. On Saturday we headed into the Marina to tackle a list of boat jobs and hopefully get the SSB sorted! The marina is quite full and here there are a large number of British yachts- many of them having been left here after the ARC crossing! One yacht, waiting for a new rudder to replace the one which snapped off mid Atlantic is owned by a couple who had purchased their previous yacht through me at Ardfern ! Small world! |
